World-class handicrafts from all over Japan will be on display in Fukuoka!

KOUGEI-EXPO IN FUKUOKA
The "KOUGEI-EXPO IN FUKUOKA" (35th Traditional Craft Products Month National Assembly) will be a wonderful celebration of technique and beauty! World-class handicrafts from all over Japan will be on display at Marine Messe Fukuoka from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th November! There are seven nationally designated traditional craft products in Fukuoka Prefecture! The prestigious crafts are 博多織 (Hakataori), 博多人形 (Hakata Ningyo), 久留米絣 (Kurume Kasuri), 小石原焼 (Koishiwarayaki), 八女福島仏壇 (Yame Fukushima Butsudan), 上野焼 (Aganoyaki), and 八女提灯 (Yame Chochin)!

The event will feature examples of all of these handicrafts, as well as collaborative pieces made by young creative individuals in the fields of art and fashion! Sumi-e ink artist Yuki Nishimoto's dynamic brush strokes will be featured on Yame Chochin lanterns. The spectacular floral artist Nicolai Bergmann will be working with Hakata Ningyo to create so memorable displays. There will also be a collaboration between the awesome fashion brand BEAMS and Hakataori! It will be so exciting to see what everyone produce! On top of the wonderful exhibition, visitors will also be able to enjoy all kinds of attractions, workshops, and demonstrations! This year marks 777 years of Hakataori. Fukuoka is hosting the expo in this special commemorative year! This is the first time that the city has staged the expo in 30 years! Delicious local treats from Fukuoka-based eateries will also be available! There will be so much to see, so make sure to check it out!

Traditional Crafts in Daily Life
An exhibition called "Traditional Crafts in Daily Life" is taking place inside Fukuoka Yokamon Hiroba, which is located on the 11th floor of the Fukuoka Prefectural offices! During the event, examples of the seven nationally designated traditional craft products from Fukuoka Prefecture will be on display from 18th October to 27th December! On the same floor, the "Yokomon Cafe" will be serving special dishes in Koishiwarayaki and Aganoyaki ceramics!

Fukuoka Yokamon Hiroba is also holding an exhibition to celebrate Ashiyagama steel kettles used in tea ceremonies. Visitors can sample Yame green tea served in Koishiwarayaki and Aganoyaki ceramics.
