"Fukuoka Fair" held in Honolulu, Hawaii!(1/9)

Fukuoka and Hawaii… An exchange that crosses even the widest ocean!


35 years have now past since a sister city/state relationship was established between Fukuoka Prefecture and Hawaii in 1981. In order to celebrate, the "Fukuoka Fair" took place in Honolulu, Hawaii over 4 days, from Thursday 19th to Sunday 22nd January 2017! All kinds of people and goods from Fukuoka made the trip across to Hawaii to help put on the fair and show what Fukuoka has to offer!
The event took place at the "Shirokiya Japan Village Walk," which is located in the Ala Moana Center, one of the largest shopping malls in Hawaii. Members of Fukuoka idol group "Rev.from DVL" participated. Products from the prefecture were also featured at the festival, including "Amaou" strawberries and Fukuoka grown unshiu mikan, which made their way to the U.S. for the first time.There were also traditional arts on display, with the Dazaifu Tenmangu "Miko-mai (Shrine Maiden's Dance)" performed on stage. All of which got a great deal of attention from those in attendance.
Fukuoka mascot and head of PR for the prefecture, Ecoton made an appearance, as did Hawaii Tourism Japan Kid's Ambassador Jibanyan, who was on hand to help spread the good vibes! And that's not all… There was all kinds for people to enjoy, including "Mohican Ramen," which gave visitors the chance to try real Kurume style tonkotsu ramen, as well as a sake tasting corner where guests could sample Fukuoka sake for free!
