About "EDM"
EDM is short for Electronic Dance Music and is a word that is used in America to refer to any kind of electronic style dance music. From trance and techno to drum 'n' bass and chillout it refers to all dance music with an electric twist, though in recent years it has come to describe flamboyant electro house and floor filling progressive house music.
EDM started off in America but is now experiencing and international boom. Large scale festivals exclusively featuring EDM artists and DJs including tomorrowland in Belgium, EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) in the USA and ULTRA regularly draw hundreds of thousands of people and sell out a year in advance. EDM has grown up with and is now an inseparable part of festival culture.
Big EDM Acts like David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Swedish House Mafia alongside Afrojack, Skrillex and Steve Aoki have secured places in the UK and US charts, received Grammy awards and nominations, and even headline rock events such as Coachella and Lollapalooza. In music its not only the biggest youth movement since hip-hop but also an entire growing youth culture of festivals and fashion.
