Pop culture meets traditional Hakata festival YAMAKASA

Every July in Fukuoka sees the annual Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival, which enjoys nationwide popularity, attracting nearly three million visitors from around the country.

The Yamakasa site (in Japanese only) has a very informative explanation of the origins as well as the schedule and powerful graphics.
