The Kitakyushu Manga Museum is a facility dedicated to manga culture that aims convey the charm and fun of this much loved medium. From Saturday 16th July to Sunday 4th September, the museum will play host to a special anniversary exhibition titled the "World of Sakura Momoko," which aims to celebrate 30 years since the debut of Sakura Momoko, the creator of the much-loved national classic manga "Chibi Maruko-chan."

Having made her debut in 1984 in the girl's manga magazine "Ribon," 2014 marked Sakura Momoko's 30th year in the industry. Active as a manga artist, lyricist, playwright and essayist, the "World of Sakura Momoko" aims to bring all of her diverse works together under one roof. This commemorative anniversary exhibition has been touring around Japan and this summer will make it's way to the Kitakyushu Manga Museum!

Around 130 of her original pictures form the core of an exhibition that also features pieces related to the projects she has been involved with in the music industry, essay manuscripts, privately created sculptures, as well as a collection of her best loved work. The various pieces on display will really give fans the chance to get a feel for Sakura Momoko's uniquely creative world. Sakura Momoko Profile

Born in Shimizu City (present day Shimizu-ku, Shizuoka City), Shizuoka Prefecture in 1965. Debuted in 1984 with "Oshieteyarunda Arigataku Omoe," which was printed in the magazine "Ribon Original" (published by Shueisha). Went on to create the long-running manga "Chibi Maruko-chan," published in "Ribon" from 1986, a huge hit that delighted fans and brought her to national prominence.

It won the 13th "Kodansha Manga Sho (Kodansha Manga Award)" in 1989 and was turned into a TV anime in 1990, which is still broadcast today. Also wrote the lyrics for the theme tune to "Odoru Pompokolin," a song that won an award at the Japan Record Awards.
Other notable manga works include "Kami no Chikara," "Nagasawa-kun," as well as "COJI-COJI." Has also gained popularity as an essayist with the release of "Momo no Kandume" and "Saru no koshikake."
Her work "Manga Club" is currently being serialized in "GRAND JUMP."
