[Feature] Fukuoka Manhole Guide (List of Manholes and background information)(8/52)
Okawa-shi [大川市]

The main image shows the “Chikugo River Shokai-kyo (Chikugo River Lift Bridge),” which used to be used by the former Japanese National Railways' Saga Line stretching across the Chikugo River. The “Etsu” (Coilia Nasus), which swim in the river, are also featured alongside the city's flower, the “Canna Lily.” The “Kiri” (“Paulownia Tomentosa,” which is commonly known as the “Princess Tree”) can also be seen in the design. Interestingly, the 7 “etsu” fish that are depicted towards the bottom of the manhole cover represent the number of staff who initially helped establish the “Gesuido-ka (Sewerage Department).” (Sewage pipe manhole cover).
