#9 Member of Japan’s Ground Self Defense Force and Hardcore Otaku(2/3)
Q and A

■Name Kenichi (taken from Kenichi Morita – the protagonist in “Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shojo”)
■Occupation Member of Japan’s Ground Self Defense Force
■Otaku History 4 years
■Girlfriend - Y/N? No
■Favorite genre Nothing in particular. As long as it’s interesting I like just about anything.
■Character you'd take for a wife? Natsume Rin (“Little Busters!”)
■Reason for becoming otaku?
I was in Sofmap (electronics store) in Nihonbashi, Osaka, when I saw Natsume Rin starring at me from the cover of a “Little Busters! Visual Fan Book” and it was like love at first sight. At the time I had no idea if Little Busters was a game or a manga or an anime, but I was instantly in love. That’s what love at first sight is though, right! So I bought the fan book first and then finding out it was a game I went and bought that too. The game really moved me and then I just fell deeper and deeper into this world…
■What are your thoughts on the latest otaku boom?
The more people who you can talk to and share your hobby with the better I think. So long as everyone knows how to have fun at concerts and events while being respectful and using their common sense, great!

■Site you frequent most
Nico Nico Douga, kakaku.com, Otaroad Blog
■Word or phrase of the moment
Nothing in particular.
■What are you hooked on at the moment?
PSP Hatsune Miku -project diva- extend
I’m quite into VOCALOID at the moment.
■The next thing you want to buy? PlayStation Vita!
■How much have you invested so far? About 2,000,000 Yen?
■What does being an otaku mean to you?
Having something to laugh at, have fun with, be moved by. Being able to talk with like-minded people. This is a difficult question!!!!!!
■How do you budget your monthly earnings?
Rent, food, electricity, etc – 0% (the self-defense force covers this)
Transport, clothing, general goods – 10%
Hobbies and everything else – 90%
I generally spend what I earn every month. I don’t save any money and I have no intention of saving money either. I don’t really think towards the future.
■Last word
I just turned 20 this year so I figure I’ve still got a long way to go! I’ll be an otaku well until I’m old!
