Fukuoka Akarenga Bunkakan (Red Brick Culture Center)
The Fukuoka Akarenga Bunkakan (Red Brick Culture Center) was constructed in 1909 and initially used as the Kyushu branch of Nippon Life Insurance company. The building, which was designed by Kingo Tatsuno and Yasushi Kataoka, was designated as an Important Cultural Asset by the government in 1969. The combination of red brick and white stone, as well as the dome and small spire on the roof are all reminiscent of popular trends in late 19th century British architecture. The impressive, classic design almost makes you feel like you've travelled back in time.
