#37 Interview With Globally Popular Cosplayer, Nekomu Otogi, After Her Return To Japan - People's Reactions To Moe Are The Same As In Japan. (2/3)

Whether it’s idols or models or singers, there are a lot of young artists out there who go and experience what it’s like to perform overseas and come back knowing what they need to improve on to make it in the international scene. Cosplayer, Neokmu Otogi, is no different. Repeating this process several times only expands ones capabilities and the numerous young artists I’ve seen over the years are proof of this.
Also joining Nekomu on stage were cosplayers from Indonesia, Singapore, China, Taiwan, the Philippines and Malaysia.
What did you feel when you were communicating with them?
“Otaku are the same every where – that’s what I thought. People’s reactions to moe are the same as in Japan. Like when a female cosplayer spots an ikemen (hot guy) and screams “Ikemen daisuki!” (I love hot guys!), their expressions and the way they smirk is the same. The feeling of moe towards particular characters that one likes is the same as us as well. People over there will straight up say things like, “that’s my wife,” or, “my husband.” I’ve still only ever been to Indonesia but otaku are otaku – we at least share that in common.”
