In 1851, the "America's Cup" was first held as a commemorative event for the "The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations." Steeped in history, it continues today and is seen as the pinnacle of international yacht racing. The "Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series" qualifying stage, is held across 2 years at locations all over the world, with the winning team earning the right to proceed to the final to take on the defending champions. Held over 3 days, from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th November 2016, at Jigyohama, Fukuoka City, this year will be the first time that one of the legs of the "Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series" will be stopping in Asia!

The finals, which will be held in June 2017, will be the 35th time that the America's Cup has been staged. With Softbank sponsoring their efforts, "Softbank Team Japan" are currently battling it out to try and get there! And this is the first time in 15 years that a team from Japan has appeared in the competition. There are elite teams from all over the world currently involved in the challenger selection series. But with only one team advancing to race against the winners of the previous America's Cup, Oracle Team USA, who will win the chance to compete as the "challenger" at next year's competition? You won't be able to take your eyes off the action!

Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series
It is not a contest just about pure speed. With at least part of each yacht constructed in the country that the team represents, the expertise that goes into building the boats requires state-of-the-art technology that draws on everything from fluid mechanics to meteorology. This means that a great deal of prestige and pride is at stake for the countries participating in the "America's Cups." With the race coming not just to Asia, but specifically Fukuoka, this is a truly rare opportunity to witness it live! So make sure you get a ticket and experience the most preeminent yacht race in the world! (Editorial Dept.: Nene)
