Pasha (Turkish food)(2/2)

  |  Next
3.jpg
Pasha is run by Turkish chef Gultekin Tublek. He says that he first heard about Japan when was nine years old and had to look up some information on the country for his homework. He got a pamphlet from the Japanese consulate and says he can still remember “the bullet train on the front cover and the yellow hats and red satchels of the elementary school kids”. Pasha is the only place in Fukuoka to enjoy not only Turkish foods and beverages, but also Turkish culture. Drop by and try something new.

    Wappa Teishokudo (Japanese style restaurant)

Shokudo, or restaurants specializing in Japanese set meals, are not uncommon these days, but Wappo Teishhokudo on Kego-hondori stands out when compared to this widening field.

    Tetsunabe (Gyoza)

Forty years ago Nita-san began selling handmade fried gyoza (cabbage and pork dumplings) in his yatai (street stall) in Hakata.

    2011.03.14

    Sakau (Tempura)

Located amongst the modern fashionable shops on Southern-dori near the Yakuin six-way intersection, Sakau, with it's Showa-era atmosphere almost seems out of place.

    2011.03.07

    Pikaichi (Champon/Sara udon)

For 33 years now, Cho-san and his hard working crew have been serving what is for many customers, and obviously this reviewer's opinion, the perfect sara udon!

    2011.02.28

    Hamburg Onion

With several fast-food chains offering mega-sized beef hamburgers on their menus, it's clear that beef burgers are back! If you fancy a fat paddy but you also want your veggies, consider Hamburg Onion.

    2011.02.21

    Nihao! (Chinese restaurant)

A popular Ropponmatsu-based Chinese restaurant for more than 20 years, Nihao is run by a father and son-in-law duo hailing from Beijing.

    2011.02.14

    Naminori Santa (Seafood Izakaya)

Fukuoka is famous for delicious fresh fish; but finding an affordable and casual spot to feast is not easy. Naminori is a no-frills izakaya conveniently located just off of Nishidori in Daimyo that specializes in reasonably priced seafood.

    2011.02.07

    Murata (Soba)

Noodles are a big part of the Japanese diet, but there are marked differences in taste and style around the country. Soba (buckwheat noodles) is more popular in Kanto, whereas Kyushu is famed for udon.

    2011.01.31

    El Borracho (Mexican food)

Dissatisfied with the few Mexican-style diners in town, Sugiyama-san (Su-san to his amigos) moved to Mexico City for two years to master authentic Mexican cuisine.

    2011.01.24

    Taigen Shokudo (Yakiniku)

Where's the beef? Here's the beef - and the good stuff! Opened in May 2006, the term "shokudo" (literally diner or canteen) doesn't do justice to its stylish interior and location on Fukuoka's fashionable Keyaki-dori.
