Chaya Tamaya Restaurant (茶屋たまや)

On the road to the temple there was a restaurant that caught my eye. They have quite an extensive menu but I would recommend the “shojin bento.” Shojin means to elevate one’s spirit. Inside this bento is rice, and vegetable and bean side dishes, so you could also call it vegetarian. Shojin cuisine is typically eaten by Buddhist monks or pilgrims respecting the strictures of Buddhist precepts for a clean and clear mind.
