Interview Now ~Acid Black Cherry~

I was really surprised and very happy to know that!

Q.You upload your PVs to YouTube so you have an idea of what your fans overseas think by looking at the comments they leave but other than that do you have any other opportunities to see their reaction to your music?

I can’t read English! (lol) Sometimes I’ll use online translation functions and have recently started trying to take a look at their comments. I was surprised that people overseas were looking at the music I put out. Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing what the overseas viewers think of my work yet.

Q.Do any non-Japanese fans show up at your live concerts? Do you get fan letters from abroad?

I have many fans that show up at my concerts from Asia and Europe. I’ve never done any concerts overseas so I sometimes wonder how they got to know about me. I guess the internet is a pretty powerful media. I didn’t know my work had reached people overseas until someone showed me a video of just how much recognition some of my music was garnering. I was really surprised and very happy to know that!
Q. Have you ever thought to expand your activities to a world-wide scale?

It’s crossed my mind but I’d be more interested in just having a live concert overseas to see everyone’s reaction before going any further.

Q.Does that mean you’ve never preformed overseas?

It’s something I have yet to do. Right now, I’d be very interested in visiting countries in which I don’t have a whole lot of fans. I would also like to go to somewhere like America and do a battle of bands with the local musicians. Rather than being treated like a star, I’d like to put my skills to the test and see how good I actually am. As it is the origin of rock music, I’d be interested in seeing how they react to my scores.

Making music that I’m completely satisfied with is the most important thing

Q.What are some of your future goals?

I consistently hold myself to the highest of standards, so my goal is to continue to maintain this. Even after my major debut, I’ve never really set any concrete goals for myself. I just try to make music that I can feel satisfied with. I don’t bother myself with little details like if the venue I’m performing at will be big or not, or if I am able to sell a lot of CDs. If it happens, then I am very happy but if not, that’s okay too.

Q.So do you mean to say the main thing you are concentrating on is getting good feedback on your music?

Yes, I believe this will help me further improve as a musician.
Q. And finally is there anything you would like to tell your fans both overseas and in Japan?

I think there are a lot of people out there that don’t know who or what Acid Black Cherry is. My only wish for listeners is to not be immediately put off by how I look or judge my music based upon my appearance.

I have this image that people from countries outside Japan have a comparatively less judgmental and express their opinions in a more straightforward way. Of course I would love to become a success overseas but I feel I need to accomplish this in Japan to do so. My foremost goal at the moment is to gain support in Japan and then make my way overseas. Once I lay the finishing groundwork for my career in Japan, then I will start looking to make a debut overseas.

I know that there have been a lot of people supporting me up until now, and I cannot thank those people enough. My dream is not to become a big star but rather to create music that people from all different walks of life can enjoy.
