Interview Now ~Good Morning America~

I have found that audiences here really listen to the music, and not coming just to have fun.

Q. What are your thoughts on Fukuoka?

Kanehiro: Since our major debut last year, we’ve come down to Fukuoka about 10 times. Fukuoka has always been well known for being one of the most musically talented prefectures in Japan and I have found that audiences here really listen to the music, and not coming just to have fun.

Q. Did you try any gourmet foods here in Fukuoka?

Kanehiro: We’ve haven’t tried any yet. We always go to the ramen place, Yama-chan which is near where we perform. Whenever we are here, we eat there either before or after all our shows.

Q. Tanashin-san, we’ve got a question for you. Your catch phrase is "Fire!" with your fist up in the air, when did you come up with that?

Tanashin: We started performing as Good Morning America around three or four years ago. That was around the time we started getting more gigs. I wanted this streak to continue and for more people to come watch us, which is why I came up with the phrase, "Fire!" I started doing this regularly during our performances, beginning one year ago.

Kanehiro: You’ve even written "Fire!" in your elementary school year book, right?

Tanashin: I would always write "Fire!" in the year book and in cards to people but I wouldn’t pump my fist up in the air and yell "Fire!" in front of everyone like I do now. In a way, however it has always been a phrase that’s stuck with me.
Q. When did you start wearing sunglasses with short shorts and dying your hair blonde?

Tanashin: I started this at the same time I started up with the phrase, "Fire!" I wanted to draw people’s attention to our band as a way to get them interested in coming to our live concerts. Hiromi Uehara, the famous Japanese jazz pianist once mentioned that she sets her hair in a unique way so she would be more recognizable when she performs overseas because many Japanese look similar to people outside the country. Later, the memory of this crossed my mind and stayed with me.

Come to our live concert and enjoy it!

Q. What are your future goals?

Tanashin: I’d love it if we could perform live concerts all across Asia to start with.
Kanehiro: I think so, too! If we have the opportunity to do so I would jump at the chance. I think Dragon Ball has given us the big break we need.

Q. And finally is there anything you would like to tell your fans both overseas and in Japan?

Kanehiro: Music is the universal language and through it we can easily interact with people in different countries and backgrounds. It forms a link between people and I hope one day we can create a special place to accomplish this on a higher level.

Tanashin: It’s hard to put words to what I want to say over the internet, which is why I hope to see you at our live performance. Not only do I give the music my all but I want to entertain the audience to my full ability, as well. To start with you can listen to our CD or watch our music videos on YouTube. After that, hopefully you can come to our live concert and enjoy it!

Good Morning America

A project that started as a high school hobby among friends in 2001 in the Tokyo Hachi Oji area blossomed into the well-known band it is today. Finding popularity among the locals with their unique melodious punk sound coupled with English lyrics, they eventually made their way into several compilation albums. Going on tour and producing musical work in 2006 they told the public they were going on hiatus. Having made the switch over from English to Japanese, they started up again in 2007 under a new name: Good Morning America. In 2008, their original drummer left; the remaining band members form the current group.
They caused quite a stir, with their unconventional self-sponsoring of the of their V.A. release, "良い音楽ここにあります[Ii Ongaku Koko ni Arimasu (Good music is here)]" and hosting of events such as their, "あっ、良いライブここにあります。2012 [A, Ii Ongaku Koko ni Arimasu. 2012 (A, good music is here 2012)]” which had never been done before on the guitar rock scene.
Up until now, this band has released three mini albums of their own. The vocalist, Kanehiro delivers wonderful live performances. When reality has gotten you down his gentle tones will lift you up and shape your view of the world.
