Yame-shi [八女市]

This cover incorporates a kind of wicker pattern into a design that includes the text "YAME-SHI," as well as the symbol of the city, which depicts both nature, as well as the rising sun. The origin of the name Yame is said to derive from a section of the Nihon Shoki that reads "Kono chiho ni megami ari, sono na wo Yame Tsuhime to ii, tsune ni sanchu ni aru (There is a goddess in this area, who they call Yame Tsuhime, she will forever live in these mountains)." The central design can be seen as depicting eight mountain ridges, with each section representing a goddess (the characters used to spell Yame can be read as "8 goddesses/female deities"). Sewage manhole cover. (Parts of the comments above are taken from the Yame City Water and Sewerage Bureau)
