The Worldwide Seifuku Photographic Pavillion -Supervised by Sakurai Takamasa

We spoke to Sakurai-san, the pioneer of Japan’s “Kawaii” culture about the Seifuku Photographic Collection he accumulated while traveling throughout the world. This collection is now on display.

Japan is the most fashionable country in the world. This is the opinion of many young people around the world.

There are countless events around the world that introuduce Japan’s pop culture such as anime, and it is not unusual for them to attract an attendance of over ten thousand. No longer is it a festival for the “otaku”, but young people come to enjoy everything from tradisional Japanese arts to music. In recent years, the interest in fashion at these events is playing an increasingly bigger part. Japan is the most fashionable country in the world – actually this is the opinion of many overseas youth. The “kawaii” fashion they see in anime and manga is commonplace in Japan, something they found out through the Internet. Of course seifuku is one genre of Japanese fashion. I have released the photographic collection I have accumulated from seifuku events throughout the world. These events that introduce Japanese pop culture, where they can freely enjoy their favorite fashion, is hallowed ground to them.
