The straight bangs are an indispensable element when it comes to Lolita fashion.

Q:Can you tell us what you are wearing today?

Misako:Today, I’ve decided to go with an Ama-Loli (sweet Lolita) theme from the brand BABY, THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT. Since it’s starting to get hot, I’ve chosen something light and fluffy in pastel colors. I’ve also made sure to include a lot of ribbons in my outfit!

Q:Please tell us some more about this year’s trends in Lolita Fashion.

Misako:Recently, the Lolita age bracket has gone up, and we see a lot of older girls enjoying this brand of fashion. I believe this has lead to the Classical Lolita fashions becoming the main trend for this year.
Q:What do you feel is the most important thing when it comes to Lolita fashion?

Misako:It is not exactly an item but the most important thing is your hairstyle. The straight bangs are an indispensable element when it comes to Lolita fashion. Lolita fashion is all about trying to look like a doll. The main point of this is for girls to appear doll-like and as though they occupy the dimension between the real world and the screen.

This is hard to accomplish without straight bangs. If people can see your eyebrows they can also know what you are feeling and this makes you less doll-like.

I join Lolita tea parties overseas about once a month.

Q:How is the Lolita situation overseas?

Misako:I join Lolita tea parties overseas about once a month.Sometimes, I’ll be asked to join three times in one month, but even if I want to join I will usually have to decline some of the invitations. The number of Lolitas are increasing faster overseas than in Japan and many of the main Lolita representatives overseas frequently host events and this growth is because of all their hard work.

Q:It’s been one year and three months since the Japan Lolita Association has been established. As head, do you find yourself quite busy?

Misako:While a lot of offers to participate in overseas events have come my way, I have been very busy these past six months with the publication of my new book: “Lolita Fashion BOOK.”
When it came to writing this book, I was the only association member in Tokyo and had to do everything by myself. Whenever I go overseas I also take this book with me. This time I’ve been requested to bring 100 books along with me and have to carry them myself, so it’s a real test of physical endurance. (lol)
