We Can All Get On A Lot Better With Each Other

Kurosaki: Various parts of the world are united through kawaii. It’s the Internet era. There are uniquely Japanese things that we didn’t even know were being relayed around the world and it wasn’t until I went overseas that I fully realized that. I’d heard that anison were also going global in a big way, but these were still just rumors to me until I went to see for myself.
I was also surprised by the friendliness of people overseas. There are things you really just don’t know until you actually go and see for yourself. It’s incredible that you can have otaku conversations with people overseas. Just stick to the common otaku lingo and you will understand each other. When you discover things like you like the same anime, you begin to forget that you were born in a different country. Whether it’s anime or lolita fashion, you feel like you’re given a way to traverse this ocean effortlessly with either of them.
I think it’s great that more and more people are finding more ways of connecting with each other. I’ve made more friends, too. But I still think we can all get on a lot better with each other.

Aoki: I agree. Before we knew it, lolita developed a following of fans throughout the world. There are people who know who I am. It’s something to really be thankful for. I will keep working hard and continue to carry on the spirit of the Kawaii Ambassador.

Age-Appropriate Lolita Fashion

Kurosaki: I’ve seen your videos showing people how to put on makeup on YouTube, Misako-san, and I saw you using pink eye shadow, so I started using it, too.

Aoki: Really? Thank you.

Kurosaki: I was really intrigued by the “Otona Lolita” (Adult Lolita) magazine segment that you’ve been doing lately, so I always make sure to have a read.

Aoki: As more and more adults take to lolita fashion, I think we’ll see a greater demand for more classical styles. Things like plain patterns, paniers with less volume, and hair arrangements using one’s own hair rather than wigs. These are the kinds of trends that I wanted to introduce with that particular project.

Kurosaki: I would love to be able to pull off a more mature lolita style. It’s a really good guide for me. I think it would be great if more adults got behind lolita fashion.

Aoki: A lot of people feel they’ve grown too old for the style and have moved on. It’s such a shame to give on fashion just because of your age. There’s a away to wear lolita fashion that’s appropriate for your age, too. I’m doing the Adult Lolita segment to try and get more people to keep wearing lolita.

Kurosaki: I think it’s great what you’re doing.

Aoki: I would love for you to be in it too, Maon-san. You’re a fan of the classical lolita style, aren’t you?

Kurosaki: I love brands like Innocent World and Victorian maiden. I like materials that look a bit more mature. At the moment I’m wearing BABY, THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT. I always try to wear things that are chic.

Aoki: When you go overseas, I would love to go with you as your stylist.

Kurosaki: That would be such a waste on someone like me. But I would love to go overseas together some day.

Aoki: I can’t wait!

After their talk, Maon Kurosaki posted what a great time she had talking with Misako Aoki on Twitter. As the one who planned their meeting, it was such a pleasure to see.
Two heads are better than one, many heads are better than two, and the more like-minded supporters that join together, the greater the chance we have to bring Japan and the world closer together. This has been my line of thinking for a long time now and it’s what I believe.
The reason I am able to keep travelling the world as an advocate for cultural diplomacy is because of all the supporters I’ve met along the way. For me, another significant factor was the opportunity to travel the world with Misako Aoki as the producer of the Kawaii Ambassador project. It’s because of what I experienced then that I’m able to do a lot of what I do and know a lot of what I know now. Combining fashion and music on stage is something I’ve been working on and practicing for a while now, but it would be the greatest if I could make it happen for the Misako Aoki and Maon Kurosaki fans all over the world.
This talk has given me a new goal to strive towards.
