The Studio Ghibli Layout Design Exhibition finally reaches the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum!

My Neighbour Totoro

This is your chance to catch a glimpse of the secrets behind Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's world famous animations. The exhibition is currently touring around Asia and as part of this has come to Fukuoka.

Layouts from Takahata and Miyazaki's pre-Ghibli Days

The Studio Ghibli Layout Design Exhibition is now held with full cooperation of the The Studio Ghibli Museum and features works from Nausicaä right up until this summer's The Wind Rises. The pieces are centered around cells drawn by directors Miyazaki's own hand as well as work from Takahata and Miyazaki before their Ghibli period. Overall the exhibition features approximately 1300 items. It is also the first time layout designs from The Wind Rises have been exhibited in Japan.

The list of famous nostalgic series produced by Takahata and Miyazaki before their Ghibli work is myriad. "Heidi, Girl of the Alps", "3000 Leagues in Search of Mother", Future Boy Conan", "Sherlock Hound" and "Jarinko Chie" among many others. This exhibition is definitely a fun day out for the whole family.
For the duration of the exhibition the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum is to run a special Studio Ghibli Shop. Please enjoy the wide selection of the items created from the Studio's lovely characters and layout works.
