Cosplay costumes are generally hand made. But some get theirs tailor made!

ab:How do you get your costumes and how much did the ones you are wearing cost?

Rikert(Korea): Most costumes in Korea are hand made. We have our cosplay team make them. Usually we get the girls to make the costumes and the boys make the accessories. Some teams have members make their costumes individually. My outfit today cost about 5,000-6,000 yen. I borrowed the guitar from a friend and attached LED lights for about 3,000 yen. Caruto had LED attached to the Hatsune Miku costume so it cost about 15,000 yen.

Ueda(Japan): I bought a costume off the rack, and adjusted it to fit by myself. I made my accessories from materials I bought. It cost about 5,000-10,000 yen.

Haruno(Japan): Same here. It cost about 3,000-9,000 yen.

●Ueda and Haruno have accurately reproduced Gekokujo Kan‘s Kagamine Rin&Ren’s costume.
Misa(Taiwan): I usually make my own costumes, but this time I had no time so I bought it and adjusted it myself. It cost about 5,000 yen. The wig and hair decorations are hand made.

NENEKO(Taiwan): Most of mine are hand made, but sometimes I get them custom made. There are few cosplay costume stores in Taiwan and they are expensive so I sometimes buy them in China. Today’s costume cost about 6,000 yen.

ab:Custom made costumes seem expensive. Does anyone else have custom made outfits?

Mizutani Rei(China): I always get mine custom made. I instruct the tailor on every fine detail from the material to the stitching. I make accessories by myself. Today’s costume cost about 8,000 yen in total.

●Everybody was interested in Mizutani Rei and Wan Wan from China. Their custom made costumes cost 8,000 and 14,000 yen. Cheap!

●Aim-chan from Thailand also gets custom made from China.
Wan Wan(China): I get mine tailor made too. Today’s costume has a corset in the dress and I was very particular about it. The skirt has four layers. The total cost was about 14,000 yen.

Aim(Thailand): This costume is hand made, but I bought my socks and ear muffs. I sometimes get custom made stuff from China.

Yuegene Fay(Thailand): Normally all my costumes are hand made from tip to toe. In Thailand when I make costumes, materials are cheap and easy to get, so it is easy to make. There are plenty of custom tailor stores. My wig and boots cost about 2,000 yen. So if you are into cosplay Thailand is a paradise (lol).

NORANEKO(Fukuoka): I got all my gear at Japan’s well known Shimamura discount store. Total cost including the wig was about 15,000 yen. I can’t make stuff so I look around till I find stuff that I like. The most expensive costume I have cost about 50,000 yen.
-SZU-(Japan): If there is a good product off the rack I will do a few adjustments but if not I will make the costume from scratch. The gakuran (boys school uniform) from a shop would be difficult to dance in so I made this one I am wearing today. The total cost of today’s costume is about 20,000 yen. I am very particular about recreating an image – especially glasses and accessories. This can make things expensive. The most expensive costume I have is 100,000 yen.

ab:What is the cheapest outfit you have made?
Pipi Chu (Hong Kong): In Hong Kong a cheap costume costs from about 1,000 yen and goes up to 2-30,000 yen. The costumes are all hand made, the wig is customized and the accessories were handmade for about 5,000 yen.

Rou(Fukuoka): I got today’s costume from Uniqlo, but usually I make them myself. I can sew a dress with a pattern to make costumes that fit myself. I can do it cheaply for about 1,500-5,000 yen.

Miyabi(Hong Kong): For the ASIA VOCALOID FESTA finals I prepared two costumes. The one I wore when applying by internet cost about 4,000 yen. I was very particular and it is all hand made, but the one I wore in the finals today was the cheapest one at 1,000 yen. I use excess material from other costumes to make this one and it is cheap! (Everyone was surprised exclaiming ‘cheap’)
