Let's Go to Comiket!~Summer Comiket 2011 Event Report~(2/2)

Summer Comiket – Day 2 (August 13th)

The second day of Comiket was all about Toho Project, fan-made software, Gundam, and the music of Vocaloid. The biggest craze at the ‘doujin’ booths this year was “Tiger & Bunny” (or “Ti-bunny” for short). The popularity of the Tiger & Bunny series is still going strong. There was also a fair number of people lined up at booths of the amateur stars of Nico Nico Douga’s “Utatte Mita” fame who were there selling CDs.

The most popular of the “Utatte mita” singer booths this summer were “Pokota,” “koma’n,” “Hebi-Gero” (the collaboration of “Hebi” and “Gero”), and “clear and nero.” Kettaro, one of Nico Douga’s biggest stars has been working with one of the popular characters of “Enso shite mita,” Marashii, and together they produced a CD of ballads, also there for sale.
There’s just something about the power of MARiA’s voice, another Nico Douga favorite, particularly amongst girls, that just makes you feel so good when you listen to her. Of course I got a copy of her CD for myself!♪

This day was also referred to as Vocaloid-Day, with a ton of Hatsune Miku goods available for purchase and quite a number of Vocaloid cosplayers about the place. Even the company booths were dealing their fair share of limited edition goods which sold out in a flash! Hatsune Miku’s popularity is really something incredible!

Most of the guys on the second day of summer Comiket were there for Toho Project and right from opening a 10 minute line had formed (in length, not in waiting time!) that went way out the doors! A lot of Toho Project cosplayers were also there.

Here is just a sample of the items that I secured over my 2 days at Comiket! There were also quite a few booths that I wanted things from but had already sold out too though. Arghh, not fair!!

I was more than a little pleased with myself for the collection of Hatsune Miku goods I hauled on the second day! I bought a Toho Project lottery ticket and won the 2nd place prize which was a card game set – another highlight! I also got to catch up with some of my foreign friends who came to Japan for the event and the two days I got to spend at summer Comiket was just a blast!
The next Comiket event, winter-Comi, will be held on 29th~31st December, 2011! For future reference, any clubs or groups that want to participate in the next event have to submit their application by the end of the previous event (i.e. summer Comiket!).

“COOL JAPAN mag!” brings you all the latest on what’s creating buzz on the net and is a resource on all things Japanese pop-culture! We’re currently distributing to Harajuku (Japan), Hong Kong, Taiwai, Singapore and Paris.
For our test run issue I infiltrated Nico Douga headquarters for some info sourcing and also conducted interviews with popular Nico Dou community members Kettaro and Shounen T, as well as jpop culture evangelist, Takamasa Sakurai! The reviews were all positive and the mag has the go ahead to continue! So stay tuned for our first issue, coming soon!!
