The second day of the festival was greeted by fine weather and was as packed as the Saturday! The venue was absolutely jam packed! By the time things were back up and running, hot-summer sunshine had replaced the Autumnal weather from the day before.
"SUNSET LIVE" usually comes to a close on a Sunday and that is why you tend to lots of families with their children enjoying the atmosphere on the final day of the festival. The ability to accommodate youngsters, adults, and parents has been one of the events great strengths. It is undoubtedly one of the major reasons that so many people have fallen in love with "SUNSET LIVE" over the last 25 years.
After arriving at the venue, it is always important to check-out what’s going on. We made sure to stop by the Beach, Palm and Mori (Forest) Stages to find-out who was performing. There was an awesome line-up on the second day, including the likes of BERRY GOODMAN, ONE☆DRAFT, SKA☆ROCKETS, OSAKA MONAURAIL. In what was their first, live performance in Fukuoka, WONK took to the stage and really charged up the crowd. One of the most impressive sights from of the second day had to be the entire crowd sing along and go crazy for the Magokoro Brothers' set.
The latter half of the day saw big-name performers such as FIRE BALL, RHYMESTER, and SPECIAL OTHERS take to the stage. It seemed only appropriate that the line-up for 25th anniversary should include so many fantastic artists. One of the real highlights had to be MIGHTY CROWN, who returned to "SUNSET LIVE" after their successful appearance at last year's festival, to deliver an unforgettable performance. Their unique reggae sound fuses together Western and Japanese musical influences, with all kinds of genres, including hip-hop, rock, and pop. When the band perform you can clearly see how much fun they have with the audience. "Fun through music" is a phrase that really hits home when you witness this kind of site. Having the opportunity to come into contact with, and discover new kinds of music is one of the great aspects of this festival.
People have been saying that the size of Saturday's crowd was one of the biggest in the history of the festival. Despite the huge number of people in attendance, all the staff and helpers ensured that the day finished on each stage without any major accidents or incidents. With "SUNSET LIVE" due to return for the next couple of years, it won't be long before the organizers are celebrating the event's 30th year anniversary. Whether they evolve and incorporate new elements into how things are done, or remain true to the original concept of the festival, one thing is certain... It is going to continue to be a lot of fun!
Time has really flown since we first started covering the festival. It feels like the last few years have passed by in the blink of an eye. Much like ourselves, there are surely lots of people who view Sunset Live as a prominent and consistent event in their lives. Looking to the future, we hope that "SUNSET LIVE" will continue uninterrupted for the decades to come! We already can't wait for next year's festival!
