★ Grand Prize / Special Award - Eisaku Kubonouchi Award

Kubonouchi: One of the main reasons I chose this work is the strong sense of drama that it radiates. The dinosaurs in the image represent the "past" and the young kid symbolizes the "present." In other words, it's as if we are witnessing two distinct time periods meeting by chance and the subsequent interaction that ensues. The dinosaur, a creature that has long been extinct, is talking to a "modern day" child. What could kind of topics could they be discussing? This story really feels like a well-rounded drama. The image does not just depict the discovery of a dinosaur, I think it presents a situation that will make the viewer contemplate various topics. Also, the light from the caves serves as a form of spotlight, illuminating the two main characters in a rather dramatic manner. I think this is a wonderful piece of work that gets people thinking and stimulates the imagination. That was a major factor in my decision to choose this artwork!

"Eisaku Kubonouchi Award" winner, CindyLeeLizard, received a book signed by Kubonouchi!
★ Grand Prize
Pre (Korea)|Title: 마녀견습생~魔女見習い~ (lit.: - Witch apprentice -) *Click here to enlarge the image! (* Available at the official MediBang website)!

Mikimoto: This comment might seem a bit stern, but please be aware that this prize was influenced by the lack of artwork, which made it through to the final stage, that had a strong sense of "moe" in their design. Last year, there was a lot of people that excelled in this style of work. It might be difficult to win if you also applied last time, too. I think there are a lot of professional artists and publishers who would like to see an increase in the amount of artwork that has a stronger sense of individuality. Having said that, it is important to recognize that some markets, such as the gaming industry, require a certain degree of uniformity in the art they use. From that perspective, I certainly think that these individuals can find work. But I want everyone to challenge themselves to discover their own unique style. I'm looking forward to seeing what you create in the near future. Good luck!

Pre
Pre travelled all the way from Korea in order to attend the award ceremony! We got the chance to have a briefly chat with Pre about the event!
ab: Congratulations! How do you feeling about winning the award?
When the winners were announced, I suddenly heard my name... I was kind of surprised, as I received a much bigger prize than I thought would be possible. I got some great feedback from the judges. Moving forward, I think I need to improve and continue to refine my skill set.
ab: In terms of work, what are your prospects for the future?
Right now I am working towards drawing original pictures and concept designs in Korea. I kind of entered this contest by chance and I ended up winning this award. This prize has made me want to try even harder in the future!
