I started DJ or Band with writing a magazine. I had a confidence to organize party better than anybodyelse.

ab : What was your timing to become a editor of "FINE"?

Tube was printed before in music page, but I changed it to add Beastie boys or Red hot chilli peppers to the magazine. Everything had begun to start from the time and a sense of values had changed entirely.
It was necessary to go to best place United States to make interesting contents at that time. Then I went to LA to get to know each other to some extent and in the next place I attacked NY.
Because there were a culture and the hard core of hip-hop and own skateboarding in New York, I all
checked. Anyway, I often went to U.S.A. these days.It often happened That I didn't come back as saying "I come back in a week"!

ab : You were also holding an event besides the magazine then, weren't you?

Ohno : I was holding "Fine night" at Roppongi Eros on every Wedsnday. For example, if real skateboarding team or Cypress hill and suicidal We hold their welcome party. Then if that came alive, We did a national tour. I was intent on doing many events not only a magazine.

It's a band "DBX" Mr.Ohno is doing a vocal.

 I was also playing a DJ, and I began to play a band (DBX) on the way to been at Fine. I kept taking a snap shot at event and that became a report and also livened up. I had a confidence to hold great party beyond all others. Only a nameless person from teenagersin to young early twenties were in the magazine at that time, and the scene was not big, so that We said "He is something!", He became to be paid to attention immediately.
Some of them became famous as it. I thought The sense I longed for the United States in long‐ago days had started in Japan. "Culture sense" was there.

I wanted to make magazine for men, and I have a thought that If I do it at all, I do what I want.

ab：What was the reason which became to resign a chief editor of "Fine" and started a magazine "Warp"?

Ohno : When I was chief editor of "Fine" for 3 years and became 30 years old, I thought I was not fit to stay here. Then I went to LA where I love it, but I came back in 3 months after all, because I had to start work for magazine "Warp". It was me to help to get the license of Trance world in US. So I thought this is related to me. "Fine" was basically a magazine for girls, but Almost all readers of "Fine" were boys in the end.So I wanted to make magazine for men, and I have a thought that If I do it at all, I do what I want.
And I started a magazine "Warp" in May 30, 1996.

What is a real? If you don't mistake you can make something amazing!

ab : I think Mr. Ono is the type of a person who kept staying on the culture and made a scene together.
Seeing from the situation of the editor, how did you feel the scene is formed with expanding?

Ohno : Though I came back from USA, I thought it was be fun by all means to remain in LA. But I had hoped Japan should be fun like this. I thought this was the best if the skateboading and music' business could be commercially practicable as same as USA. And the then Japan was going to be in American style.
When I was doing a job "Warp", I believed that possibility.
I was reporting something to happen at the place with using a magazine. I just kept making feverishly as interesting.
I was thinking the Balance of content but it depended on a sense and whether good or bad. I just tried to make something amazing. There was no theory because the warp has already sold well as a diffrent position besides other magazines.

If anything, it was best to have happened on the spot. And I tried to tell the real thing and the thing was happening in USA as source of that culturte throughout magazine. I thought if I didn't mistake I could make something amazing.

ab : It's a matter whether you like or not isn't it?

Ohno : And I did play DJ and Rapper as a model from early, therefore Nature, music, fashion and a sports
was already been crossover. When I went to New York in 93, I was taken by DJ YUTAKA to attende a meeting of Zulu nation. I realized hip hop is the culture including DJ, Rap, Dance, Graffiti. I felt it was very nonsense to take up only music. Lifestyle is in a relationship with all, so I became aware of "the sense of culture".

ab : Is that "representation of lifestyle = the sense of culture"?

Ohno : I think even if most of boys who had a thought to be popular started snowboarding as popular at that time, boys get into ecstasies. So I tried to leave the future to the magazine. I was always thinking to incite their inspiration.
