FUKUOKA KIMONO COLLECTION Special Report(3/10)
Next to feature was "Hakata-ori," a leading traditional handicraft from Fukuoka Prefecture that has more than 800 years of history!
With Hakata-ori, the plain weave on the surface is made from a warp that is made of lots of threads, and a thick weft made from a combination of thin yarns twisted together, a reed is then used with a great deal of force to create the horizontal ridge in the material. This durable brocade is a thick material that has a woven pattern, with the warps visible on the surface.
Here is Erika Matsumoto and Mirei Kiritani showcasing "Hakata-ori" kimonos!
