#13 In Memory of Genpei Akasegawa. My Life Pre and Post Genpei Akasegawa(3/3)
Previous | Next

We went out together countless times and even now, whenever I drink Japanese sake at the same soba house in Asakusa that I’ve been going to for more than 20 years, or whenever I go to art museums and see paintings that we discussed together, I think about Akasegawa. It’s like he’s right there next to me. I wonder what we would talk about if he was here with me now? Conversations with Akasegawa are a laugh from start to finish.
Currently there’s a retrospective exhibition called “The Principles of Art by Genpei Akasegawa: from 1960s to the Present” being held at the Chiba City Museum of Art (until 23 Dec. 2014. It will be held at other museums at later dates). I hope that you all go and see with your own eyes some of the works that this leading Japanese artist has given the world. There are some pretty interesting people in Japan after all! I hope that Akasegawa Genpei continues to inspire all the young people out there like this, just like he did me all those years ago.
