#41 Special Discussion with Seiji Mizushima (Director) and Sumire Uesaka (Voice Actor) – Part Two – “Recording is Like 5 Hours of Continuous Stress!”(2/3)

Voice Acting as a Career
Mizushima “What are your thoughts on voice acting as a career? What do you want to do in the future?”
Uesaka“Up until I was a high school student, Haruko Momoi was the only person I thought of when I thought about voice actors. I thought they would dress-up in cosplay, sing cute songs, and get to play various bishoujo (pretty, young girl) characters in anime. I just thought voice actors lived in the two-dimensional world. It’s still a dream I long for, but after actually becoming a voice actor, I learned that that’s not all that voice acting is about. It’s so much fun waiting to see what new roles come my way.
For me, voice acting doesn’t feel like an occupation. It’s more like being a priest, and having a career that’s one with your lifestyle. I don’t really know how to explain it but that’s what it’s like.
I don’t have a detailed plan for the future. I want to keep voice acting, I want to travel overseas and go to all different events and meet otaku all over the world, I want to draw, I want to keep researching lolita…or maybe something will happen and I’ll just end up moving to Asakusa and starting my own wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) store, who knows (lol).”
Mizushima “I think you’re getting to experience a lot through creating. You have a lot of people around you who are adept at various things, and I hope that from here on we can continue to work together, no just on anime production, but on various projects, as friends.”
