Lianyungang in China > Harbin > Yangzhou > Kunming... All in a week!

It has been a hot Summer and we have experienced quite a few typhoons. I regularly go abroad and frequently fly, so I always keep an eye on the weather forecast to find-out if any typhoons are expected! It has become a regular concern. It is kind of like an occupational hazard! On the topic of Summer... I really wanted to go to a fireworks display or matsuri (lit.: festivals) in a yukata, but my schedule was packed full of lolita fashion events! I love lolita style clothes and outfits, but they can be hot in the Summer. Wearing a pannier or blouse is quite difficult in this climate! We have to really fight against the hot weather, but I am willing to persevere in the name of fashion! And besides... I have spent so much time outside of Japan this summer... I have hardly been here (lol)!

Misako Aoki's Travel Diary from the World of Lolita
July and August are the Summer holiday months. There are lots of events in China during this time! It feels like I am over there every week! I have not had many opportunities to rest. I've also had to take quite a few days off from my nursing job. I'm planning to get back to work sometime in September! I went on a China tour in early August! There were so many events in China that it seemed almost a waste of time to keep on returning to Japan. So I traveled from Lianyungang to Harbin. Then on to Yangzhou and Kunming. All in a week! I had to take high-speed express trains and domestic flights... All by myself! There was hardly any Japanese people around at all! I managed to get there by using English and the Chinese I know. Sometimes I had to rely on gestures and hand signals! I again felt China is so big!!

I have been to various cities in China before, but this time I managed to visit a lot of new places! There are some cities that I do not know a lot about. I always make sure to check the map every time I get a request to appear at an event in China! During my tour of China I participated in some lolita fashion activities that took place at manga, anime, and gaming events. I was mainly involved in talks, signing sessions, and photo shoots! In each city I was greeted by a long line of fans waiting to get my signature. Seeing all those people filled me with joy!
It feels like I am kind of a popular idol. It seems pretty strange. I'm still not used to it! Apparently I have helped a lot of young Chinese people find out about lolita fashion. It is been 10 years since I was appointed as a Kawaii Ambassador (*Entrusted as a Kawaii Ambassador by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2009). It makes me think that my work really has meaning. I'm so glad that I kept going. It fills me with energy! What an invigorating feeling!

I visited Russian-style streets and buildings while in Harbin. I also tried some delicious, fried rice in Yangzhou. I think it is important to learn about a city's culture and then tell people in Japan about it! I spend a lot of time abroad, so it is crucial to stay healthy and be open to sampling all kinds of food. I am happy to try almost any dish without any hesitation! I will do my best for lolita fashion and promote cultural exchange with China while battling the Summer heat!

I am planning to go to Colombia this September. I haven't been for ages! I can't wait! I am looking forward to challenging myself and trying new things! It was announced on their official website at the beginning of August, but just in case you have not heard... I'm happy to reveal that I will be collaborating with the fashion brand "PINK HOUSE" and erinko! Click >> HERE for more information!)

Misako Aoki's Travel Diary from the World of Lolita
The "PINK HOUSE" is not a lolita fashion brand, but they are a well-established company and are known for their kawaii clothes! Their cute, frilly fashion have been winning fans for quite some time! Lolita fashion enthusiasts seem to love their clothes! They also have a lot of fans in China! I want to put my own spin on things and show everyone what "PINK HOUSE" has to offer. It would be great if people in Japan, China, and all over the world got a glimpse at the world that this famous fashion brand has created! Working with a company that has so much history does come with a certain degree of pressure! I am a little nervous, but so excited to receive this offer! It's tough to conduct cultural exchange through the medium of lolita fashion while developing new looks in collaboration with such a historical brand. There is a lot I need to think about in order to achieve all of this. It might be tough, but I am sure that it will be a lot fun! I am so grateful for all these exciting new challenges! I will work hard to tell people about lolita fashion culture, things that I find super kawaii, fun personal facts, and stuff that is unique to me. I do not plan on stopping or taking a break!
