Tran Thi Kim Oanh [Vietnam Kawaii Ambassador, 2014]

Two summers ago, I was invited by a friend to an event being held in Daewoo hotel. As I had other things going on I was torn over whether or not go, but my friend told me more about the event and it seemed quite exciting. Having also had an interest in Japan, I eventually decided to go with my friend to the event.
It was during the fun and lively festival event organized by asianbeat that I got to know about the Kawaii Ambassador. I clearly remember how when I went to send in my application, there was a long line of girls looking excited and hopeful as they also put in their applications.
To be honest, I did not imagine I would be able to become a Kawaii Ambassador, as only two people were to be selected from Vietnam. But I got lucky and was selected as a 2014 Kawaii Ambassador.
I still remember how I felt when the results were announced. I was so surprised and overjoyed and my chest felt like it was about to burst when I started thinking about my trip to Japan. It was from that day onward that I became the Vietnamese friend to asianbeat and not only visited Fukuoka during the Sakura (cherry blossom) season but I was even invited to participate in events organized by them in Hanoi.
I’m grateful to asianbeat for giving me the chance to better understand Japanese culture and come into contact with Japanese people. Having been given the opportunity to go to Japan, I’d like to continue working and studying hard and go back. It’s something I promised myself I would do.
