A photogenic temple with plenty of "frogs" and wind chimes

"Buji ni kaeru" (come back safely); "Kouun ga jibun ni kaeru" (fortune returns) - these phrases share the same homophone "kaeru" which means frog in Japanese, thus it is considered as a lucky animal. With this implication of "kaeru", Nyoirinji Temple (alias "Kaeru-dera/Frog Temple") in Ogori City in Fukuoka is decorated with plenty of frog statues and figurines. It is a historic Shingon temple built since 729 in the Nara era. However, the use of frog decoration began in 2004, when the chief priest who visited China brought back a jade frog figurine with the wish of "safely returning". Since then, the collection is increasing year by year and now there are about 10,000 pieces! Since 2007, from June to September every year, wind chimes carrying wishes can be seen at various spots in the temple, and the swaying colourful strips create a wonderful photogenic view! Whenever the wind blows, you can hear the lovely tinkling sound that makes you forget the summer heat. The photogenic scenes of these lovely frogs and wind chimes have become a hot topic on social media. So how about visiting this wonderful place and enjoy your own photo shooting moment?
