Udon Kimura (うどん杵むら)

Inspire your senses by the flavour, the garnish, and the interior.

Founded in 1998, Udon Kimura is an appealing udon restaurant that has always inspired my senses. It is about 5 minute walking distance from Yakuin Odori Station (Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line). The restaurant was originally located at Shouninbashi-dori but was moved to the current place since 2008. Although the current place (2nd floor of the building) is a bit hidden, it is always crowded with regular customers.
They have been promoting handmade udon and "choinomi" (a quick drink) since the opening. Not only for dinner, they also serve alcoholic drinks as well as pairing snacks during lunch time, attracting many locals in Fukuoka to visit this lovely "Udon Izakaya". What makes their udon so special and unforgettable, is to have the Sanuki Udon-like chewy and springy texture, yet at the same time soft and smooth like the Hakata Udon. What a perfect combination! In addition to the classic Kake Udon and Gobo-ten (tempura fried burdock) Udon, their menu includes the most popular Sesame Miso Udon, Curry Nanban Udon, as well as the unique Niku Shigure (seasoned meat) and Stamina Tsukemen. Besides the delicious food that tempts your taste buds, the elegant garnish served in the beautiful plates fully describe the owner's aesthetic sense and are absolutely pleasing to the eye. The interior and furniture used fit perfectly to this ambience too. It is indeed a place that helps remind us the importance of enjoying meals while living a busy life.
