One of Fukuoka's "Big Three" Festivals, Hojoya! Festival Report!
From September 12-18 every year, the Hakozaki Shrine in Fukuoka city plays host to the Hojoya festival, one of Fukuoka's three biggest festival events. I attended the opening day of the festival this year and here's what I thought...(read on!)

Wappa Teishokudo (Japanese style restaurant)
Shokudo, or restaurants specializing in Japanese set meals, are not uncommon these days, but Wappo Teishhokudo on Kego-hondori stands out when compared to this widening field.

Fukuoka is famous for delicious fresh fish; but finding an affordable and casual spot to feast is not easy. Naminori is a no-frills izakaya conveniently located just off of Nishidori in Daimyo that specializes in reasonably priced seafood.

Noodles are a big part of the Japanese diet, but there are marked differences in taste and style around the country. Soba (buckwheat noodles) is more popular in Kanto, whereas Kyushu is famed for udon.

Taigen Shokudo (Yakiniku)
Where's the beef? Here's the beef - and the good stuff! Opened in May 2006, the term "shokudo" (literally diner or canteen) doesn't do justice to its stylish interior and location on Fukuoka's fashionable Keyaki-dori.
