"Lolita Fashion" is a figurehead of kawaii fashion and the attention it has been gaining is not only limited to Japan, it is a trend that has been making waves throughout the globe. Lolita Fashion first originated in Japan and it has now been decades since it first started to spread overseas. Lolita culture has adapted to suit different cultures and climates across the world and continues to evolve in many different ways. In this series, the charismatic Lolita fashion icon, Misako Aoki introduces us to the various Lolita-inspired events and ocha-kai (tea parties) that are being held in different locations all over the world.

#24 Back in New York for a tea party and other events!
I got the chance to go to New York at the beginning of March! I had attended a string of events in China, so this was the first time that I had done a long-haul journey in quite some time! It was great to be back in NYC, I hadn't been there for around three years!

I was lucky enough to participate in many overseas events throughout 2017! I got to travel abroad almost every month of the year! My last trip of 2017 was to Shanghai in December!

#22 The hugs from lolitas were moving! My first trip to Chengdu!
Last year I went to Chengdu in the middle of November! I have been to lots of cities in China, but this was my first visit to Chengdu! Pandas and Sichuan cuisine instantly come to mind when I think of Chengdu!

#21 Event in Hefei, China and a first visit to Shanghai Disneyland
I was in China a lot during November! Seeing how popular lolita fashion has become in China makes me so happy! I still haven't come to grips with the size of China. You can visit places that you've never heard of before, sample new dishes, and discover so many interesting things!

#20 Lolita Tea Party in Brazil!
In mid-October I visited Brazil, which is on the opposite side the world to Japan! The flight time was similar to my Chile trip last year! It's great to see how excited people in South America are getting about lolita fashion!

I was lucky enough to go to Beijing in August! Actually, I was also there in July, so it had only been about a month since I was last there! I've realized that I get the chance to visit at least one region in China pretty much every month!

#17 My First Tea Party in Chicago
In July I went to an event in Chicago! I have been to various places in America before, but this was my first time in Chicago. ANA currently fly direct from Japan, so the trip is pretty straight forward! Chicago is famous for many things, including Garrett Popcorn, who even have a store in Harajuku, which always has lines of customers waiting to get in.

#16 My First Tea Party with Swiss Lolitas!
In early June I celebrated my birthday and also got the chance to travel to Europe! The trip was a mixture of work and pleasure! I have been to various parts of Europe before, such as France, Italy, and Spain. This time I got to go back to Italy, but also visited Switzerland for the first time!

A big event held every year in Houston, USA, the "Anime Matsuri" welcomes lots of models, cosplayers, and artists from Japan attend! This year's festival was held from 7th to 9th April and Misako Aoki was there making a guest appearance as a lolita model!

#13 Lolita fashion, a big hit in Mexico! Tea ceremony and fashion show at the "J'fest" event!
From the end of March to the beginning of April, Misako was in Mexico City to make a guest appearance at an event called "J'fest." Coincidently, ANA started a direct flight from Tokyo to Mexico City in early February!

Springtime means that cherry blossom (sakura) season is nearly here! Sakura are one of the first images that people conjure up when they think about Japan, which makes you realize that they are something to be proud of and enjoy!

#6 The popularity of lolita fashion in China continues to grow! Amazing tea parties were held in Guangzhou and Shanghai during August!
August saw major "tea party" events take place in both Guangzhou and Shanghai at amazing top-end locations. Everything from the chandeliers, to the tables and chairs were gorgeous. It was all in keeping with lolita fashion, making for fabulous tea parties!

#5 Lolita travels in China! Chinese lolita fashion continues to get bigger and bigger!
In July, each week saw me in a different Chinese city; Guangzhou, Nanjing, Nanchang, and then Jingdezhen. It really made me realize that lolita fashion is spreading throughout the whole of China!

Models for KERA and the GOTHIC & LOLITA BIBLE while also working as a nurse. Was appointed as a Kawaii Ambassador (Lolita Fashion Representative) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2009. Has visited and attended events in over 30 cities across 20 countries and regions. Now has countless overseas fans.

Involved in setting up the Japan Lolita Association, has released "Lolita Fashion Book," has also worked in the development and promotion of new products. Contributes to activities that promote Lolita Fashion.
